soagent and address book source sync

Either or both of these tend to pull maximum cpu cycles at unexpected times to the point of freezing all other processes. Force quitting the process through Activity Monitor only sees them restart within seconds and jump to 100% cpu or higher. These are clearly intended to be background tasks taking idle time but will instead take priority, often when least convenient.

Only effective stop is to remove Address Book from iCloud access--which results in all on-board address book data disappearing. Worse, when re-connecting Address Book to iCloud, all contact data gets duplicated. This can, in some cases, result in multiple duplicates of every contact instead of a true sync.

Added note: My wife's machine which has been increasingly unstable, was discovered to have over 33,000 contact duplicates... Thirty Three Thousand! There is clearly an issue with Address Book Source Sync or soagent. I tend to stay on top of my Address Book and have manually cleared duplicate contacts when the number rose to eight but when you get your contacts doubled each time, that means ABSS ran over 180 times duplicating her contacts list.

Contacts – Resolve Duplicates

My solution:
I had this problem also for roughly a week. My configuration is quite simple: While my only calendar is a GMAIL one, all others (adress book, mail...) are iCloud ones. I've tried a lot of hints found in the web:
- deleting soagent (even the complete plist) didn't help
- disconnecting all GMAIL accounts

- checking for duplicates (there were no...)
- discovering with MCContactsManager a faulty adrdress book item (I didn't found any)...

Nothing really fixed the problem. But based on the last hint above I did the following:

1.) Ensure all contacts are synced with iCloud

2.) Disable sync of contacts in iCloud settings

3.) Mark all contacts and remind the amount of them and export them as VCF to your desktop
4.) Mark all contacts (if not still marked) and delete them

5.) Reboot device (only to be on the save side...)

6.) Enable sync of contacts in iCloud settings
7.) Watch all the contacts contacts arriving back from iCloud

8.) Check if the amount of contacts is the same as noticed at (3.) --- When I did it, it was the same amount.
9.) Delete the backof of the contacts (the VCF on your desktop)
10.) Enjoy the silence!

My hypothesis: It seems there was a buggy contact, but by deleting and adding again from iCloud that issue was fixed.
