Apple USB Superdrive seems incompatible with Ma...

Apple USB Superdrive seems incompatible with Macbook.  It seems that there is not enough power in the USB C port for the superdrive.  I cannot burn any discs when the Superdrive is connected to the USB C port.

What error message do you get?

"If you're using a MacBook Air SuperDrive and it was manufactured before Fall 2010, it won't work with the USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter or the USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter. To identify these drives, plug in the drive and open System Information. Click the Disk Burning tab in the System Information window. If your SuperDrive displays 1CHQ or 2CH9 as its firmware version, it's not supported with these USB-C adapters."

Mac computers that can use an Apple USB SuperDrive - Apple Support

Hi, I just purchased the new MacBook Pro 13" and I'm using a 3rd party (Moshi brand) USB-C Multiport however, it cannot power my Apple USB SuperDrive.

Using an earlier version of a MacBook Air, I was able to get the Apple SuperDrive's information:

Firmware Revision: 2.00

  Interconnect: USB

Burn Support: Yes (Generic Drive Support)

  Profile Path: None

  Cache: 1024 KB

  Reads DVD: Yes

  CD-Write: -R, -RW

  DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW

  Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO

Media: To show the available burn speeds, insert a disc and choose File > Refresh Information

Given the info, I can't tell if my SuperDrive was manufactured before Fall 2010.

Thanks.

Same problem here! Come on Apple!
