Downgrading from MacOS Sierra beta to MacOS Sierra
Hi,
I am currently running the Version 10.12.1 Beta (16B2338c) of Sierra; however, I would like to downgrade to the version that is downloable in the App Store (which I think is 10.12?).
I have followed the below steps that I have seen online:
- Removing beta updates from the App Store preferences section (I did this, but when still seeing beta updates in the App Store) and;
- Using Disk Utility to erase the beta partition that has been made, however, I do not have this in my disk utility.
- Unsubscribed from the beta program
I would appreciate any advice that people could give on how to revert back. Hopefully a complete wipe will not be required Although I have made a back in the case that that is required.
Thanks in advance,
B
I believe you need to do a complete erase and reinstall.
In this respect, there is really nothing different because it is beta software.
To revert to a previous version of the OS, regardless of its release status, you must erase the drive and reinstall the older version of the OS (as trevoz noted).
Unless there is a strong reason to revert back, it will be easier to wait until the update is released to the public.
Following the steps you did just prevents further updates from installing and being offered.
Since you didn't install the beta software on a separate partition or drive as suggested when you entered the beta program, you are kind of stuck with it until the public release unless you are willing to erase and reinstall.
Alright, I have a similar issue, and would like a solution that does not involve having to reinstall the entire Operating system from scratch....
About a week ago, I allowed an upgrade of Sierra from 10.12.2 to Sierra 10.12.3, and now a number of applications do not work properly, so I would like to roll it back. I have been informed that I would need to use Time Machine to do this, but I have never used Time Machine before, and do not believe that it automatically saves restore points like Windows, so I need a another solution to get rid of this latest upgrade.
Again, PLEASE do not say reinstall the OS!!
PS. I apologize for the necro, but so called "Apple Support" has been totally useless!!
You do not use Time Machine, and you are setting a condition (no reinstall) that effectively leaves you right where you are — with 10.12.3.
I have been informed that I would need to use Time Machine to do this,
Your informant was correct.
I have never used Time Machine before, and do not believe that it automatically saves restore points like Windows
You are mistaken.
I need a another solution to get rid of this latest upgrade.
There isn't one.
Again, PLEASE do not say reinstall the OS!!
Okay, then. It seems like we're done here.

Refer to Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support. Follow the instructions under "Restore everything". Choose an operating system version prior to 10.12.3.
You basically said what I already knew, that switching to a Mac was a MASSIVE mistake, but thanks for the response!!
I see a mistake in the answearers style...
Ok guys, this exact situation it's very complicated. First of all why do you need a developer update on a personal computer? unless you are developers you don't need to have one installed. The solution is extremely uncomfortable, and even isn't an absolute solution. So TimeMachine won't help you, you have to backup manually your system at a directory level. All info in the OS integrated Apps will have to ve discarded (maybe excepting the Apps that use a Database like iTunes, Photos, Mail, Etc "case by case"), if you make a TimeMachine backup and after you erase and reinstall, the Migration Asistan will deny any option to rejoin your previously backed info (because Your backup is on a higher updated version "it doesn't matter if it's a developer one" the system doesn't care).
You have to manually backup personal data, erase your internal drive, install a fresh downloaded "Install macOS x.x" App, update the system, download your App's, reinstall your other App's, rejoin your already manually backup personal data, and finishing by doing all the consecutive updates to your system and/or installed Apps. By doing this you will risk to have unexpected and/or abnormal behavior.
The alternative.... Wait for an Official MAS Client System Update.
Good luck!
Well stated 100%
