ipad air won't turn off even with both buttons ...

Even when I press both the power button and the home button, my ipad air won't power down.It sleeps ok, but won't power down. And I need to reboot it so that I can use that to attempt to connect to wifi, which it also won't do.

Any suggestions?

Sounds like the sleep/wake (or power) button is inoperative. Do the following if you want to shut it down. Powering it back on is described below as well in the last section.

Enable AssistiveTouch which floats a virtual button on-screen which can mimic all hardware buttons on the device:

Settings>General>Accessibility>AssistiveTouch: turn ON

To power off the device, tap the AssistiveTouch button (which should now be floating on the screen), tap Device, tap *and hold* Lock Screen until the "slide to power off" message is displayed. Then power off the device by sliding the slider to OFF.

*Note* If you power off the device using the AssistiveTouch panel (tap the on-screen AssistiveTouch button, Device>Lock Screen (tap and hold to power off)), you will NOT be able to power on the device if your Sleep/Wake (power) button is not functioning. You will need to connect the powered off device either to a PC's USB port or an external charger to power the device back on.

Are you pressing and holding only the Sleep/Wake button (top button) -- it takes 5 to 10 seconds for the slider to appear: Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset

HAve you tried shutting it off, waiting at least 30 seconds and turning it back on?

Yes I'm pressing them both down for a minute plus and no slider appears. The ipad won't shutdown.

The issue is that the ipad won't shutdown.
