Apple Watch wrist recognition

Evening guys,

I was delighted when I received my new series 3 Apple Watch 42mm through the post when I got home, but I’m quickly finding myself getting annoyed with the locking system.  Any help, recommendation for the following would be much appreciated:

- Synced with iPhone and passcode / wrist recognition activated as well as iPhone unlocking option

- unpaired and repaired device as well as restarted both phone and watch devices several times.

- Even shaved my long arm hair to see if that was blocking sensors (didn’t laser off my sleeve tattoos although perhaps that’s the next stage)

- Tightened Watch strap until wrist went blue...to no prevail

My Apple Watch device is not staying unlocked for more than a minute.  I was under the impression was wrist recognition was designed to avoid constantly typing in passcode?  Is this a faulty device or do I need new arms?  This is obviously a major issue as I didn’t spend £350+ quid to have the software not work on day 1!
