2011 Macbook Pro black display, Help?

I'm using 2011 13" Macbook Pro with OS X Yosemite (I'm not sure though). 

So a couple of months ago my charger broke and I've only bought a new one a month ago. During those times I only opened my macbook 1 or 2 times with the help of my friend's charger. The thing is, the macbook died without me shutting it down first. When I charged my macbook with the new one, the screen popped up just fine, I entered my password everything went fine then suddenly the screen went black. I tried to close the laptop and then open it back but nothing happened. Then I tried to reboot it and I could hear the sound that comes out everytime you'd turn on a macbook but nothing happened to the screen. I'm a student so I'm a bit low on cash, that's why I'm still hesitating to bring it up to an apple center in my area.

Has anyone had the same problems? Do you know the fix?
