permission to open photos

I have many photos in a folder on my desktop.  Have been working with the photos for days, but all of a sudden I am getting a message, "The file "...jpg" couldn't be opened because you don't have permission to view it.  To view or change permissions, select the item in the Finder and choose File>Get info."

Once I access "Get info", I am not sure what to do.  Please advise.  Thank you.

Look at the bottom under Sharing and Permissions.

It should have your user listed with read & write.

Also look at the top for Locked and uncheck that if it is locked.

This may help, if it is a widespread problem: Resolve issues caused by changing the permissions of items in your home folder - Apple Support

Also finding I can't open .pdf files for the same reason as above.
