Photos on iMac stuck uploading

Photos on iMac stuck uploading since May 30th.

No further photos will go to iCloud if I added them through the Photos desktop app (stuck at uploading 38 photos).

Photos from my iPhone are synced to the cloud ok, but not to my iMac.

It appears that the iMac has stopped communicating to iCloud.

Try creating a smart album for problem photos.

Try going to System Preferences/iCloud and stop syncing by unchecking the box. Wait a couple of minutes, then recheck syncing.

Hi Winston,

I tried turning off the iCloud Photo Library on my iMac as suggested by Eric below, and now I have 36,094 items that won't upload!

Photos shared albums works, as I created a test album.

Not sure how to proceed.

Hi Eric,

Tried that, and now have 36,094 photos that won't upload to iCloud!

Yes, I often suggest the off/on route as a last resort. Did you try the smart album?

Smart album shows no pics!

Apparently they can all upload, but...  they aren't

Is this repeatable from another user account?

How do you make a smart album?  I'm having this exact issue, photos/videos on iCloud are syncing fine with my phone, not with my iMac. All software is up to date.  I've tried the turning off iCloud sharing as well, no luck.

See the screen shot WC posted earlier in the discussion.

Solved my problem with a new iMac....

A bit of overkill, but it worked.

I bought a new iMac 2 months ago (top of the line) and only 622 of my 5,800 photos will upload.

The smart folder trick shows "0 photo are unable to be uploaded to iCloud"
