random shut

I have a late 2013 15"MBP Retina, originally bought refurbished, and Apple Care which is still active. I have Safari, keep everything up to date, and Avira antivirus, which says I don't have any viruses. A few months ago it started developing random shut-downs with ever increasing frequency. Everything would freeze and then the screen went blank and I had tor re-start it.  I had a lot of discussion with Apple by phone, and took it several times to my local Apple certified tech. He ran all kinds of tests and couldn't identify the cause.  Eventually they installed a new logic board, c/o Apple Care. That was apparently faulty, so then they installed a second new logic board. All was well for a few months, and now it has started happening again - about 1 -2 times a day. There is no specific app that causes it, and it can happen when the only app open is Safari, part of the operating system. It usually happens after the computer has been in use for a couple of hours, and can happen on both battery and mains power.

I have thought of insisting on a replacement machine, but if this is some kind of software issue, will it recur when I migrate all my software over to it?

What do I do next?

Thank you for any ideas.

Richard
