Mac OS 10.12.5: Items in Finder Windows Not Lis...

I noticed this some time in the past couple of months, so maybe it's specific to 10.12.5?

In my Finder windows, when I select View as Columns, and then Arrange by Name, the individual documents are not in any kind of order that I can figure out (at least, it's neither alphabetical or reverse-alphabetical):

Also, even with "Keep folders on top when sorting by name" selected in Finder Preferences, the folders are listed after the documents.

The alphabetical listing *kind* of works when selecting View as List and Arrange by Name, although only after explicitly clicking the ascending or descending sort arrow; otherwise, the items are a jumble:

before clicking arrow:Finder View as List-Arrange by Names.png

after clicking arrow:Finder View as List-by Name-after arrow.png

It's not the end of the world, but it would make my life easier if items that were supposedly arranged by name were, in fact, in alphabetical order. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Kate

Finder Preferences set the default setting for new windows. If, however, you change the sort order manually, by say clicking on another column header, the window will remember that setting the next time you open it.
