MacBook Pro not fully deleting files

So today, I went to delete about 90 GB worth of stuff off of my MacBook Pro. Once I had deleted everything, I proceeded to empty out my trash like always to free up all the space. Well this time... something went really wrong. Before I deleted the stuff, my Mac had about 42 GB free. So, after deleting approx. 90 GB worth of stuff, I should now have about 132 GB free. BUT... this did not happen. Please reference the screenshots. Essentially, the 90 GB I deleted got "stuck" in the "System" category of the Mac. Now, this is fairly typical. When you initially delete large files, the system absorbs the memory they hold, but then IMMEDIATELY starts to empty itself until you have regained the space. But in this case, my Mac is still thinking these files were not deleted, hence that's why it is reporting I only have 42 GB free (because it thinks I didn't delete everything). Interestingly, going to "About This Mac" --> "Storage", it shows I have 132 GB left (which technically IS this case, assuming my Mac correctly deleted the files). But, it didn't. Is this making sense? Has anyone else experienced this? And yes, I have already restarted my Mac, reset the SMC and PRAM, and reinstalled High Sierra. Nothing is working. This is driving me CRAZY... because I need this space! I deleted 90 GB worth of crap, and somehow the Mac is still holding onto the data. Oh yes... I've already deleted all cache, system logs, etc. Basically all the troubleshooting you can think of. I reported this to Apple, and even talked to two different MAC+ Senior Advisors. They were clueless. Any ideas would be wonderful.
