why does the Acorn TV app not work

Recently got the Apple TV2 and installed the Acorn TV app. We have a subscription through Acorn, but when we signed in on the Apple TV, it asks that we renew our purchase through iTunes. I should be able to use my current subscription to watch. What gives?
