Reinstating hard

I have a portable hard drive that I use to transfer files and when I travel. I don't generally keep data on my travel MBP, but only on the travel drive. I initially set the drive up to require a password to unlock. The password requirement is still in place when the drive is used with any other computer, but at some point I apparently clicked a check box that told it NOT to require a password if plugged into the laptop, or told the laptop to remember it, or however it worked, which rather defeats the purpose. Is there any way to reinstate the password requirement for the laptop that doesn't involve wiping, reformatting, and reloading a multi-TB hard drive? I didn't see anything in the system preferences or the drive's info box that looked like it did what I needed, but I may have missed something. I don't know; there's probably a trivial solution that everyone else knows, but I've tried searching and haven't found anything.

Ideas?
