Time Capsule 3rd Gen Question

I just got a used apple time capsule. I'm really happy using it as a router and wifi base station, it is much faster than the crummy Lynksys router I had there. But I really have no use for it as a Mac time capsule right now, my Mac Mini  needs a new logic board.

I can access the drive  through my network and it shows up as a 1TB fat32 drive, which really doesn't do me a whole lot of good for storage the way that it is.

I took the drive out and took a look at it and it appears to have three Apple formatted partitions, the main partition  shows up as raw on my PC so it's probably formatted with some apple file system.   The time machine translates that to fat32 for Windows machines?

My probably dumb question is, what would happen if I formatted just the main partition as NTFS,  would the drive be readable through the Time Machine on the network or would that mess up the whole thing?  I was considering just trying it, and then if it wouldn't work I could just erase the drive through the Time Machine software interface  and return it to normal.  Unless formatting it on a PC would prevent the native time machine firmware from being able to access the drive and erasing it?

I just don't know if what I'm asking can be done, if not I'll be happy just using it as it is and I'll create archives with my large files.  I was hoping to be able to use the space as media storage,  but many of my media files  are well larger than 4 GB.  But if anybody can help me figure out a way of physically formatting the drive NTFS so I can store a larger files on it, I would be extremely grateful.
