Trouble with dictation

My dictation keeps taking my text as commands. Instead of putting the text on the page, it is putting it in bubbles above the microphone as if I gave it a command. How do I get it to put the text on the page?

Sometimes, it will put a few words on the document. Then it will switch and put the words in a conversation bubble above the microphone. Other times it will put the words on the page, but then delete them.

iMacs do not run on IOS. At the absolute minimum we need to know the version of Mac OS installed. When you reply with that information  I will ask the moderator to move the question to the appropriate forum for Mac OS as your question is specialized to the Dictation which is considered part of Mac OS. In the event you do not know the version installed on your Mac, click the Apple symbol in the upper left of the display and then select About This Mac and it will tell you what you need.
