Alt+clicking a region (copying) does not work a...

By Alt+clicking and moving a region, a copy of that region should be made so you can easily make a duplicate. The original file should remain at its location. At least, that's the theory of how it should work

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but most of the times (not always!) the region that I want to duplicate (and drop at another location in the project) is being moved instead of copied.

Am I missing a setting or am I doing something wrong here?

Click on a Region without releasing the mouse. Now you can move the Region around (without releasing the mouse). While still holding the mouse you can press down the option key. That toggles the action that happens when you release the mouse. When you press the option key, the mouse cursor should display a green plus icon, when you release the option key, the the plus icon disappears. Remember, still keeping the mouse button pressed.

That means, the dragging itself doesn't determine the action, only the condition of the option key (pressed=copy, not presse=move) while you are releasing the mouse button.

Hope that helps

Thanks Edgar. Sorry but I forgot to mention that I am holding the Alt + trackpad (don't have a mouse) while dragging.

The strange thing is that when I switch to another program (browser f.i) and back again, then it works for a few times... so I'm guessing it's probably more of a OSX problem than a Logic error...

I'm using a trackpad too. It shouldn't make any difference, just how you configure the drag-action. Either click-hold or the three-finger gesture (I use the gesture).

May sound silly but could it be a sticky ALT key?? How about using the Alt key and see if that does the same?

forgot to mention if you haven't done so make sure you have upgraded to 10.3.1.

Thanks for all your responses, and I apologize for taking so much time to get back here.

I followed all of your tips, but no luck so far. In my opinion, Alt+dragging a region (or multiple regions) is still not always dependable.

Even when I press Alt (the left or right Alt, doesn't matter) way before i "touch" the region that I wan't to copy, most of the times it just moves the region, instead of multiplying it. The same behaviour occurs when using my MacBook's trackpad.

I'm running the latest Logic Pro version, on OSX 10.12.6 (so not High Sierra)
