itunes is unresponsive when opened

Help!

Whenever I open itunes it freezes and is unresponsive within seconds. happened as soon as I updated to 12.7 (big mistake!).

Running Windows 7 Home Premium (latest update) 64bit,

I have done all of the following:

1. Started in safe mode: didn't work

2. Disconnected from the internet: worked (but what's the point if I cant update or subscribe to new podcasts)

3. New Windows user account: still not working

4. Security software: no impact

5. Unwanted or dangerous programs: recent scans revealed nothing threatening.

6. I have repaired the installation of 12.7 at least 6 times, each time downloading a new copy from the download page

7. Checked all my drivers and everything is up to date.

I am at a loss as to what to do next. Short of a complete uninstall/reinstall, is there anything else?

Let's say I did end up doing an uninstall/reinstall, and it doesn't work, what next?
