An Australian iPhone,edition

An Australian iPhone, iPhone 8 Australia edition & encryption, saint or sinner?

Australia has a very unique telecommunications environment. Especially when it come to traveling in the regions of Australia, the phone that was useful in the CBD and suburbs becomes a source of frustration with low signal strength, or more often than not no signal at all.

The blame game!

The normal reaction is to blame the network and lack of network infrastructure in the regions. However the issue could also be addressed with lager and more powerful phones. At the moment I know people, like myself who would put up with twice the size and weight of an iPhone to get a signal strong enough to talk or surf.

Apple is starting to diversify its iPhone offering from the days of one size fits all, following in the footsteps of the car industry.

From cars to smart phones, to smart cars?

In car industry terms like the model T Ford one size fits all approach, we now have reached the GM state where there is a model for every pocket and need. Except in Australia! Even the dominant carriers like Telstra and Optus just offer off-the-shelf OEM wares instead of looking at what the market really seems to need or want. Textbook stop, the “coming” iCar or smart car, well Mercedes already has the Smart brand but it is more small than smart, will see how it grows up. But enough about cars for now.

The iPhone 8 or X - Australian edition - bigger and better!

So given we in Australia have these problems why not see if we can get Apple, or someone to consider the iPhone 8 Australian edition that would have the following feature-set as listed below.

1.Twice or three times the battery

2.Bigger and better antenna

3.More powerful receiver, maybe with booster button

4.App to manually tune to known band - eliminating auto hopping between providers and or cells, especially annoying in a low signal environment

5.Special non glare filter for Aussie sunlight - using matching sun-glasses (there is a new idea for Apple applied science combining function and fashion, the glass of phone and sun-glasses are matched to reduce or even eliminate glare)

6.Insulated case to reduce overheating

7.Built in local cloud buffer with extra memory

8.Australian colours like Reef Blue and Olga Red-Orange

9.A molecular sensor like SCIO

10.And a real LED light, useful in the bush, outback, or even in a dark city ally!

These are just some of my suggestions but please make your’s by leaving a comment!

Such an Australian edition iPhone no doubt would be very popular in other parts of the world too, parts who suffer similar problems, end even with some trendsetting aficionados in the CBD!

Big brother happier too?

The Australian Edition could also have some unique encryption features that would allow us to share or not to share information with our friends and helpers from the law enforcement community. Encryption is actually quite a processing overhead, and cutting it would also improve performance and battery life.

Now, a similar issue exists in the cloud or for that matter with government databases. One of the most relevant is from Oracle and it claims technology that is leading the industry. It leads by combining Identity Management in a comprehensive secure access and management model.

Other technology that would be useful for Australia and our trust relationship is utilising blockchain the open ledger behind Bitcoin and other crypto currencies.

The future is worked on now!

As said previously, this is something the Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister for the digital transformation, the Hon. Angus Taylor MP, is attempting to not just rectify, but through active engagement with Australian SME’s and Government Departments, Agencies turn into reality to Australian’s and Australia’s advantage.

At the centre of this intellectual thought leadership is the concept to provide a familiar process interface for every government website or app. A standardised, familiar user interphase, that guides the user through the system with recognisable and memorable interface blocks that also automatically populate the users data in a discourse. This will save a lot of time and frustration for the users. In the past, so many government digitisation efforts have ended in “death”, by pop-up quiz for users, as they attempted to fill in never ending online forms.

Now, if we could marry up recognisable user interfaces, for example from iOS11, with government workflows and data, optional encryption for the user if required, in a secure identity framework, translated across cloud databases secured through blockchain technology that is transparent, provides prove and full traceability, we would approach digital heaven.

A boost to economic activity

This would not just give us more confidence in business and government interactions on our smart phones and devices, but also rub-off in the leisure area, where it seems we users are profiled to the hilt and our metadata is sold without our consent or even knowledge.

But that will be a topic for another article.

What is your take on the situation?

Or just leave a comment!
