How do I transfer audio files from my PC deskto...

Even though my iPhone is old and not up to speed with the newer versions, it intimidates me.  I'm not confident to do anything new on it without explicit, detailed instructions.  I listen to little or no stored music on my phone, but I have a series of audio messages on divorce that I would like to listen to, and would l like to have the option of doing so "on the go" with my phone as the "player".

I have managed to download the files from the site where I paid for them, putting them on a flash drive, and now have them transferred to my home PC desktop, but don't know how to listen to them on the computer or transfer them to my phone for listening as I travel.  A question came up asking what playing software I want to use, but I don't have confidence to make such a decision, wondering what I am getting into for future resulting issues, like unwanted charges, and unsolicited emails, and maybe security issues.

A simple solution would be my preference, like the podcast feature on my phone, where you just click on the message you want to hear.
