I forgot the password to my ipad and cannot con...

A while ago I changed the password on my ipad and recently tried getting back on and couldn't remember what I had changed it to. When I tried to reset it through itunes, itunes gave me the notification that it could not connect to the ipad without the password being entered. I do not know the password to it so it won't allow me to connect it to itunes so I can reset it. Please let me know if you know how to fix it!
