list view expand triangle not present

I have a three day old Mac Book Pro 10.7.2.  Not all of my folders show the list view expansion triangle.  I first noticed this problem when I created a new folder, My Stuff, and draged it to the favorites section of the finder sidebar.  I opened the enclosing folder (the home folder) and saw all the other folders showed the expansion triangle - but sometime later these all disappeared!  Interestingly, if I navigate to my home folder in list view via the users folder then I can see the expansion arrow for all folders.  However, these disappear once I open the home folder.  When I open the new folder My Stuff there are also no expansion arrows for the folders therein, yet when I open one folder within My Stuff then the expansion arrows become visible again.  I've adjusted the view options and finder preferenes and nothing has had an effect - except to remove the expansion arrows of my home folder.

This problem seems to be limited to the home folder, the folder My Stuff and the only the first level of folders in My Stuff.  Is there an option or preference I'm overlooking?

Found this answer over in another question. Solved my issue.

Check the following:

1. Go to Application folder (or any other folder with similar behavior)

2. Chose "View" --> "Arrange by" --> "None"

5 years after, still helpful!

I always forget about this "feature" (bug) which removes folder expansion in a sorted list.
