Drag and drop not working on MacBook Pro touch bar
I just bought my second MacBook Pro 2016 touch bar model and am having the same problem as the first one. Dragging files works maybe half the time, and the other half I have to drag and drag and drag until maybe it'll catch the file. The first MacBook I bought had the same issue so I returned it, and now this one has the same issue! I've used MacBook pro's since they came out and I've never had such glitches until now. What are the chances that both laptops have the same issue and google shows no other issues like mine? totally lost and ready for a PC
In that case, it might be time for a SMC reset.

Indicators that the SMC might need to be reset
After you perform normal troubleshooting, these symptoms might mean that an SMC reset could be necessary:
- Applications don't function correctly, or they stop responding after being opened.
The application in this case is one or more of the system processes.
Mine was doing that when new (so badly that I frequently had to resort to copy and paste instead). It improved very, very slowly and started working normally after 3 months.
This isn't a problem with the laptop, it's a change in the way the trackpad works. I had a couple users that couldn't use the trackpad with the changes Apple made to the way it reacts to the user's touch. It takes a little getting used to but for some it's just easier to turn off "Force click and Haptic feedback" in Trackpad under System Preferences.
In my case it was frequently completely impossible to drag a file, no matter how that or any other setting in System Preferences was set. Regardless of the setting, it would be possible to drag and then a minute later impossible.
In that case, it might be time for a SMC reset.

Drag and drop is a function of LaunchServices. Try clearing the LaunchServices database. Open Terminal, then
triple click anywhere on the following line to copy entire line then at the prompt copy & paste this command:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -seed -domain local -domain system -domain user
Then press return. Wait for the cursor to return to the command line.
I had to turn off Force Click and haptic feedback to be able to drag items from the finder...
Thanks for this. Amidst all of the ridiculous non-solutions, this was it. I did look to see if there were instructions for how to click and drag with haptic feedback enabled and couldn't find any, so I just turned it off. Now clicking and dragging as expected.
Like other comments I read, that hopefully answered your question. I have been a longtime MacBook pro user and this is my first MacBook Pro 15 2017 Touch bar with 4 USB-C ports and No CD/DVD , USB , Thunderbolt or HDMI ports. So this is new to me, and drag and drop wouldn't work for me like the my MacBook Pro Mid 2012, So I figured out how to set the trackpad on the MacBook Pro 15" 2017 with touch bar to act like the Mid 2012 9,2 Model just but turning of the by unchecking the Force Click and Haptic Feedback in the System Preferences and then Trackpad uncheck Force Click and Haptic Feedback. So it is not a problem with your new laptop , it's just the way Apple made changes in the way the new trackpad works.
