My company uses a number of digital audio mixers that "used to work" flawlessly for years by creating a wireless network on a MacBook pro laptop then operating the app on laptop wirelessly from an ipad by logging into the network created on the MacBook. Since the update of mavericks 10.9 and higher the Ad-Hoc network no longer works with my equipment. I have spent weeks trying to resolve this issue by making sure I wasn't missing an update or newer software version.  Here is the explanation from tech support of the digital mixer manufacturer:
