iTunes without any previous issues stopped work...

iTunes without any previous issues stopped working and I was getting the message "I don't have enough access privileges". A quick search on the help boards came up with a possible solution. I follow the directions and looked and the "Shared" folder and it had a red dot one it.. I'm guessing issue/error..? I followed the directions, added the script in Terminal and the dot went away, but now iTunes will not even open. I'm longer getting the message, but now I get the Apple logo, the word iTune..and that's it. My concern is all of the help links I could find are 6-7 years old. Is there anything new that can help me..? I have two Apple stores close by, so now I'm leaning towards taking it to them to fix it unless there is a sure fire fix out there.
