How do I mark messages as spam in mac mail

I get numerous messages per day from "Daemon" returning mail supposedly sent from my email address. Unknown domain names, several with .ru (Russia?) suffix and message is in Cyrhillic.  I read the info about how spammers can 'steal' legitimate email addresses and make messages appear to be from legitimate email addresses

I have been 'bouncing' each message, but hasn't slowed down Daemon returning a new one to me.

My ISP said I should simply mark the Daemon messages as spam on my Mac.

I am not sure how to do this..  or if that would be a solution??

any ideas and/or advice gratefully received

Mark those messages as Junk mail;

and then create two Rules.  One  to send emails marked Junk to the Trash and one to send those particular emails directly to the Trash. Check to find what is common between those emails and use that in the Rule.

glen this should assist you, it has helped me in the past with a  icloud or me account  reporting it to apple

Never bounce anything suspicious.   It tells the sender that the address is live and ensures it will be passed around the spammer circuit.

The "Mark" as junk mail is greyed out on my Mac

that is why I am having problem I guess.

and answer above tells me I have been causing part of the proliferation by thinking I was so smart to "bounce".... thanks all of you..

I did add a RULE having all MAILER-DAMEON mail sent to separate mailbox so at least I con't have to read it all.. thanks again

Did you select the email first?

I did select email first.

First I tried "Mark" with just the message highlighted in inbox... grayed out for "Mark as spam"

Then I opened the message and tried it again...  still grayed out "mark as spam"

I am using Mac OS 10.6.8

I had the same problem. I resolved it by enabling junk mail filtering in the Mail app's preferences. Here's how to enable it. While the Mail app is open on your Mac, choose the Mail / Prefernces... menu item, which will open the preferences control panel. Choose the Junk Mail tab and make sure the "Enable junk mail filtering" box is checked.

Junk/spam filtering can be confusing if your mail provider (gmail, yahoo, your ISP, etc) is also doing spam/junk mail filtering for you since you will see 'junk' and/or 'spam' folders listed in your Mail app, but these are not coming from the Mail app itself but from your email hosting provider.

But this only moves the email to client Junk folder. How can this be marked as Junk from server too? Also you say to set rule for Junk email. What type of rule? I'm asking as I have multiple accounts. I'd like the message to be marked as junk on their server so I do not see that email next time. When I set rules in Mail then it gets activated only if I turn Mail on. That means the junk gets delivered to my mobile device.

Who are your email providers?  It would be done at your online account page at their site.

Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, iCloud. One keeps getting spam messages and so would the need to assign it as junk. It needs to be marked as junk when it arrives. It doesn't make sense to mark it as junk at later date. If I'm to use Mail client then I should be able to mark as junk from Mail and also update to the respective servers. Unless when I say mark as junk and it takes me to my setting online. The purpose of Mail client is lost.

Request an added feature to the Mail app from Apple via https://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

I get Spam mail all the time with my Mac Mail. How do I report it to you?  How do I stop it from coming into my computer?  Bob :-)
