Am i able to add back the storage?

I have bought a MacBook air 11 inch mid-2013 from my school months ago which was originally my computer for school but were upgraded to new ones this year. I am pretty sure the IT have somehow removed storage from my computer because the base model has a 128GB SSD but my mac only has a 121GB SSD. Is there a way I could get that storage back? or have they taken the original hard drive out and replaced it?

It's accurate, caused by the different ways manufacturers measure the capacity and other factors:

The capacity of a hard disk drive, as reported by an operating system to the end user, is smaller than the amount stated by the manufacturer, which has several reasons: the operating system using some space, use of some space for data redundancy, and space use for file system structures. The difference in capacity reported in SI decimal prefixed units vs. binary prefixes can lead to a false impression of missing capacity.
