Prevent Mac desktop from auto

Scenario: power goes out. I connect my Mac laptop to my iPhone for internet. My Mac desktop automatically connects to my iPhone for internet.

Problem: I only want my laptop to connect to the phone for internet. The desktop connects silently, and remains connected to the phone indefinitely, without my knowledge. This is a data use concern. If I go to my Mac desktop's network preferences, wifi, advanced, and try to remove my phone as a known network, it tells me:

"Your Mac and other devices using iCloud Keychain will no longer join this Wi-Fi network."

Desired solution: I still want my laptop (and my iPad) to be able to join this network.. I just don't want my desktop doing it automatically, without my consent.

Any idea on how to accomplish this?

I don't know for sure but I would try:

go to

>System Preferences/Network

unlock the panel with your admin credentials if you need to.

click the wi-fi in the Service pane

click advanced

select the Network in the list and click the "-" to delete it.

Click OK

select the network in the drop down

Untick "Automatically join this network"

tick off "Ask to join new networks"

I'll give this a whirl. I don't recall seeing a "Automatically join this network" checkbox.. but maybe I just missed it.
