iPad goes black with long running apps

Using my iPad with IOS 11 as my primary navigation unit running WAZE.  My iPad will go to a black screen after a variable amount of time which requires me to re-log-in to my iPad.  I have set the Auto-Lock to "never".  The iPad is plugged into power during this time so I am at a loss what to change next. 

Any Suggestions's
