Folder with question mark at startup...

This is a 2013 macbook pro (the one with a CD/DVD drive still in it)

My computer froze last night while working in garageband, and I had to manually shut down the laptop.  I tried to reboot and a folder with a question mark started flashing on the screen.  I waited and it still kept going.

I looked up the fixes to this, so I attempted to load the recovery HD, but it wasn't there, the only option was internet recovery (the globe) after holding command+R after booting.

-I first attempted to look in disk utility to repair the HD....the HD "Macintosh HD" was not there at all.  The disk utility could not recognize it.  The only things listed were Disk0, and under that the OS Base System.

-My next attempt was to reset the SMC, and I did that.  Still got the folder with question mark.

-Reset the NV-RAM, still the same result.

I read that if you do a manual shut down, sometimes the disk utility loses track of where the hard drive is, but I tried rebooting a few times, still the same thing.

Things to note:

-The computer was plugged in while this happened, the charge light was on.

-There were no odd noises of the hard drive attempting to spin or the fan slowing down

-I waited 30 minutes-1 hour before trying to reboot just to make sure it wasn't the battery.

My conclusion is that the SATA cable is loose from the hard drive, or the hard drive is corrupt.

Can I get a second opinion on this?  I want to make sure in case there's something else I haven't tried.

Thanks.
