Can Watch monitor physiological signals?

Hello. I am looking for a device which can monitor physiological signals in real-time and record that data for a project. The obvious - but expensive - solution is Empatica's E4 wristband

https://www.empatica.com/e4-wristband

but I wonder if an Apple Watch can be used to record

- pulse

- heart rate

- Electrodermal Activity (skin conductance)

- skin temperature.

Basically I want to know if an Appel watch can be used to measure 'anxiety'?

My project is not clinical research so I do not require life-saving/ life threatening levels of data accuracy.

Just how good is the Apple Watch?

Thank you.

Michael

Hi

Apple Watch (all models) includes a heart rate sensor. Heart rate can be checked manually via the Heart Rate app (and third-party apps) and is also measured automatically:

  • Regularly throughout the day when you are still (a resting heart rate).
  • Continuously during workouts (recorded via the Workout app).

Apple Watch does not include sensors for measuring skin temperature or conductance.

More information:

https://www.apple.com/watch/compare/

Your heart rate. What it means, and where on Apple Watch you’ll find it. - Apple Support

Note also that Apple Watch, the heart rate sensor and the included apps are not medical devices and are intended for fitness purposes only. They are not designed or intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions, or in the cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my question. Much appreciated.

You're welcome!

Hello,

i'm looking exactly for the same device, for a project i am doing i'm looking for a device which can monitor physiological signals in real-time and record it, we are trying to measure stress during the day. We have empatica but we are looking for something cheaper and easier to use. I'd be glad to discuss with you about that.

What did you find for your project finaly? Which device did you choose?

Thank you for your answer

Giuliano
