unable to verify account name or password mac m...

I think this started happening when I updated the system a couple of days ago. All of the sudden I keep getting the same message again and again: "unable to verify account name or password".

When I open mail my Google account works and get the emails but the Hotmail does not.

I thought I had to put the password in again (which I forgot), so I went to Hotmail (Outlook), got a new password and try to use it in Mail instead of the old one, but it didn't work, I still get the same message. Only now I can't receive or send emails from my IPhone either. Help!

Not just Hotmail. It's been happening on 3 of my accounts from different servers.

I enter the correct, confirmed password, and it's unable to verify. Very frustrating.

I'm on Sierra, just updated last week.

*Spoke too soon, re: below. Now only one of seven accounts is working, and I'm hoping that one stays up. Passwords confirmed. Multiple providers. Please tell me I won't have to delete all of my accounts and enter them again.

*Third time's a charm. Changed passwords 3 times and it finally took.

Changed password on the provider side

Working again. No idea what's going on, but hope it takes for good this time.

Mine starting working miraculously yesterday after trying to put the correct password several times in the previous days. I just left it alone and check a couple of days later and it was receiving emails. Only my google account was working normally and suddenly I can receive emails in the hotmail one. It still doesn't let me send messages though. And when I try to change the password it tells me I can only have one IMAP account (I don't even know what that is!) Ugh!

I had the same problem with my Facebook account, which meant, for example, that I couldn't post an article I came across in Safari.

The box popped up to enter my password, and I did, and I got the "unable to verify account name and password" message in red.

What solved it, for me, was closing the popup, going into the accounts window that was underneath, going into my Facebook account, and entering the password there. For some reason, it took.

I tried everything, what finally worked was to create an "app password" on my outlook account (on browser), you have to download the "microsoft authenticator" app on your iPhone to do so, but it's really easy and fast.
