Contacts and music appear to be syncing, but favorites appear and disappear without warning.

If you had an Apple Watch running watchOS 2 or earlier, there was a feature called "Circles" which would display your favorite contacts on your Apple Watch when pressing the power/side button.  watchOS 3 and later get rid of this feature.  Pressing the side button now shows the dock/multitasking. 

This is not the issue. I have never had an Apple watch. This is a bug. Contacts transfer and Favorites do from time to time from iPhone,but the Favorites disappear on the watch and there is no obvious way to resync.
