Manage how ads display on videos

How ads show on videos you watch

The ads you see while watching YouTube videos are tailored to your interests and based on your Google Ad Settings, the videos you’ve viewed, and whether you're logged in or not.

When you're logged in, these anonymous signals may determine which ads you see:

  • Types of videos you’ve viewed
  • The apps on your device and your use of apps
  • Websites you visit
  • Anonymous identifiers associated with your mobile device
  • Previous interactions with Google’s ads or advertising services
  • Your geographic location
  • Age range
  • Gender
  • YouTube video interactions

Whether you are logged in or not, the ads you see are based on the content of the videos you’ve viewed.

Manage privacy settings for ads

You can control the ads that are delivered to you based on your Google Account across devices in your Ad Settings. You can also view, delete, or pause your YouTube watch history.

How ads show with videos you monetize

YouTube videos that you've enabled for monetization display ads served through the AdSense auction, ads sold on a reservation basis via DoubleClick (DCLK), and other YouTube-sold sources. Learn more about monetizing your videos and YouTube advertising formats

We regularly monitor and update our content-targeting algorithms in order to deliver the most relevant ads to your video pages. We don't manually control all of the ads that appear with your videos and can't guarantee that specific ads will be displayed with your videos.

The AdSense ads displayed on your video are determined automatically based on contextual factors relating to your video, including (but not limited to) your video metadata and whether the content is advertiser-friendly.
