Magic Mouse 2 does not scroll in Sierra

This morning, I needed to boot into safe mode (to test out making a Sierra boot disk - a separate issue I was having) and then rebooted normally. Once I rebooted (not in safe mode), the Magic Mouse 2 tracking speed was really fast (even tho the preferences were normal, about half way) and the MM2 would not scroll at all. It also does not display the battery levels in the Bluetooth menu. It's acting like I'm running it under 10.10, but I am running Sierra 10.12.5.

I have tried the following with no luck

  • Reset the PRAM/NVRAM
  • Reset SMC
  • Deleted ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleMultitouchMouse.plist & rebooted
  • Removed and re-added Magic mouse 2 from Bluetooth pane
  • Tested out a brand new, fresh out of the box Magic Mouse 2 (this mouse worked fine with another system)
  • Rebooted several times

I'm not sure what else to try here. Any suggestions?

Fixed it myself. Downloaded and Reinstalled the 10.12.5 update. That fixed the issue

It is good that you fixed it as stated.

Another unexpected cause of problems with the MM2 (unrelated to operating system) is finding a hair lodged inside the emitter opening that was casting a shadow as the mouse was moved. The hair removal eliminated horrible tracking problems.

I have the 10.12.6 version installed and am having the same problem with the Magic Mouse 2 - other gestures work, but scrolling stopped working yesterday. I have reinstalled MacOS and no luck. I have reset the SMC and no luck. Running a late 2015 iMac 4k Retina. Good thing I also have a Magic Trackpad 2 and that works fine.
