No "Put back" entry in the context menu while i...

Hi,

I was plugged suddenly by inability to put an item back to its original location from Trash. I select any (one) item right-click it and of 7 objects only invoking context menu upon 1 of them actually has that "Put back" entry. The original locations are "Downloads", "Desktop", /private/var - all that used to work. I know it can't move back a group so that's not the case. 1 movable object shared the same location with another which is unmovable ("Downloads"). I'm puzzled. I restarted - no difference. Anybody to share insights?

Boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and try from there.  Reboot normally and check again.

Hello scrutinizer82,

What is "plugged"?

How did these items get into your trash? Lots of 3rd party utilities have the ability to move things to the trash. But only items moved by the Finder can be "put back" to where they came from.

I moved them manually in an ordinary way.

Is the one that is unmovable an alias?

No.

Is there a timeout value used by the system for putting back from Trash?
