Could not connect to apple tv from MacOS Sierra

Hi,

I upgraded my Macbook Pro (Retina Mid 2012) to MacOS Sierra. When I'm trying to connect to apple tv by clicking on AirPlay icon and click on my Apple TV it asks me to insert a passcode!!! The Apple TV shows a passcode and I use it but it gives me this error :

Could not connect to "Apple TV"

I upgraded my Apple TV to the latest tvOS (10.0). And it gives me the same error.

I tried to turn on passcode and password on Apple TV from AirPlay Setting but same error. Turned it off, same error.

Please help.

Thanks,

Hooman

Did you get anywhere with this? I have the same issue.

Hi. This strange behavior (computer requires passcode when Apple TV doesn't) has been reported for El Capitain as well. Try restarting Apple TV and rebooting the computer. It might help, but no promises.

One further thought. Is Bluetooth turned on on your Mac? If so, could you try turning it off and see if it makes a difference? If wonder if peer-to-to-peer AirPlay is getting involved somehow.

I upgraded my iMac to Sierra and could not connect to Apple TV at all.  It seemed to try (though nothing ever appeared on the TV), but would then fail with an error.  I restored to El Capitan from my backup and it works fine.

I solved this by signing out from iTunes store on my ATV and on my computer and then signing back in again making sure to put the received codes in as requested.  Once all was signed out then signed back in, everything worked again.

Tried it. nothing happened except it doesn't ask me the code anymore just give me "Could not connect to Apple TV" error.

I tried that also, did not work. Repeated, multiple reboots and restarts and .... nothing. I'm belligerently staying with MacOS Sierra, Apple get on it.

Mac Laptop late 2011 worked OK, no problem. Same Sierra OS as my Mac Mini, same configuration hardware as the laptop; but Mac Mini will NOT connect ("cannot find ..") Apple TV.

My laptop (late 2011) with Sierra finally connected after several reboots and restarts (ATV). But my Mac Mini (mid 2011) with Sierra will not. Many reboots later, no help. I hope this gets resolved soonest. Use it often.

Airplay is working if I use Itunes and play a video and stream it to the Apple TV.

Airplay is not working if I try to use Mirroring. If I try to display my dsktop on the Apple TV 4th Gen. I get the message 'Could not connect to "Apple TV"'.

OS: MacOs Sierra

Device: MacBook Air 2011

Mirroring did work fine with the previous MacOS

Mirroring does work with an iPad Mini 4th Gen.

I used Onyx for Sierra (from Titanium), and that solved the issue.

1. Restart holding Command R

2. Launch Disk Utility

3. Repair disk (First Aid)

4. Restart normally

This should do it.

Same problem.

I cannot mirror my laptop via airplay. I have Sierra 10.12.2 on a brand new 15" 2016 MBP. My 4th Gen Apple TV is also up to date. Multiple reboots of both to no avail.

Incredibly frustrating.

EDIT:

I tried with "Require Device Verification" on the ATV both On & Off. Security is set to "none".

In either case, when I try to connect with airplay the Apple TV displays the 4 digit verification code on the TV and entering that code results in the "Could not connect" error on the Mac.

Switching bluetooth off did not help.

Try this:

Make a new user and login with that. see if you can connect with airplay. If this works then go back and log in with your default user. Goto ~/Library/Preferences and move all files and folders to a new Folder like "old pref" on your desktop just in case. Then restart you Mac.
