eliminate pop up adds from mac

While working on my computer (2015 27" iMac), persistent adds pop up from "mac-cleaner" & others, on the upper right corner of my mac. I have to physically turn them off by hitting the red button! How can I illuminate these adds?

Safari - Preferences - Extensions - search for AdBlock and add it.
