MacBook Pro started lagging after World of Warc...

I have researched and tried everything to help my friend with a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)  2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 with the Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB graphics to resolve the problem of massive game lag in World of Warcraft (WOW). She's been playing on her laptop without issue for over a year and then shortly after the latest big patch hit, it started making it impossible to play due to massive lag. I took my laptop over, which is almost identical to hers, and game play on it was seamless. So it's nothing to do with the game or her WiFi. It's directly related to her machine. Now, there are a couple differences in our machines. Mine is a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 with NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB Graphics. So really, the only differences is the 2.2 GHz to 2.8 GHz and the Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB graphics vs the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB Graphics. When she runs the game now, her fan ramps up and the machine runs quite hot. And, sometimes the machine shuts down completely. I'm sure that's from overheating. And it only happens now when she runs WOW.

So my question is, why would it begin acting up now? We've experienced big patches before without issue. Why now? Why all of the sudden. Would an upgrade on her graphics card help? I've exhausted my efforts to fix the problem. I understand that laptops aren't really made to play massive online games, but it's the only thing she wants to play on. Unlike me, I only play on my iMac. Help please. We enjoy playing together but she's so frustrated she's ready to give up on the game.
