The difference between MacBook Pro 13" 2012 to ...

I have a MacBook Pro 13" 2012 but wanting to get another as mine now is starting to lag and slowly crash on me. I'm wanting to know if it's better to get a new laptop or to just try and completely upgrade mine?

Define "slowly crash."

 

Upgrading RAM to 16GBs may help, as will upgrading to a SSD if you don't already have one in there. These costs are relatively minor compared to a new Mac. You may want to try them out before buying a new Mac. Also backup, erase your drive, install a new OS, install your apps from scratch, and manually restore your data. This will give you a completely new slate to work from, and if all of the above doesn't satisfy you, then it's time to sell it and buy a new Mac.
