Sierra 10.12.6 Not Releasing Files Opened via SMB

After users upgraded from 10.12.5 to 10.12.6, they have been reporting shared files from Windows Server 2016 not releasing after closing. If they try to move/rename/open the file after closing, the only way to release the file is to restart the computer. The users do not have a time machine backup, so rolling back to the previous release will not be a simple option. I'm hoping someone has found a workaround.
