Notifications working sporadically on apple wat...

Since I upgraded my apple watch series 2 to the new operating system (4.0), I get notifications sporadically. For example, with text messaging, I have the notification setting set to mirror my iphone, and before the upgrade I would get notifications. Since the upgrade, I get them sporadically (and, yes, the watch is connected to my iphone when this happens). I've tested it with my friends by having them send me a text message, and my iphone is locked, but I don't get a notification on my watch. I can open up the messaging and see that there is a message, but I don't get the notification. This is also happening to other applications that once were working (i.e. twitter, email). Not sure why it's suddenly this way. I didn't change the settings on my watch after the upgrade.

It may help (as it appears to have done for another user with this issue) to update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS (currently iOS 11.0.1):
