delete photos

How do I delete a lot of photos from my ipad whithout  chosing every singel photo?

On iOS 10.3.3 if I tap the Select button top right in the Camera Roll album I can then press and hold a photo and drag my finger around the screen to select a range of photos

In IOS 10 you used to be able to select a group of photos on an iPhone or iPad by selecting one, then dragging your finger to select a group.  You could then delete them all or do something.  How does this mass select work in IOS 11 now?   Do I have to tap 100 photos to delete them all?
