S.M.A.R.T Status : Failing

Hi,

I just purchased an old mac mini that wasn't factory reset. I formatted the drive and tried to reinstall the OS but couldn't because the S.M.A.R.T status is failing. Initially there was an OS there and seemed to work fine but i wanted to reset it. Is there anything I can do get around this or do I need to install a new drive? This is a mid 2011 mac mini with a 500gb hard drive and 4gb ram. Thanks.

You will need a new drive.
