passwords

When I open up my laptop, and at random other times of use, I get dropdowns of obscure locations asking for my password. It could be a current one, or any of the last two I have used. Some are from Safari, icloud and then other random locations.

they are a royal pain and I can't seems to make them go away permanently

It may be possible that your MacBook Air has some form of malware. I would suggest that you consider downloading, installing, and running Malwarebytes for Mac to see if it uncovers anything.

As an alternative, you can also try EtreCheck to see if it finds any as well.

Thank for the tip, I did check Malwarebytes for Mac and I am clean. Problem still exists.

What do you mean by "locations?"

Try running EtreCheck.

For example:

Accountsd  wants to use login keychain  and is asking for the password.

So does:

scopedBookMarkAgent

cloudd

protectedcloud

addressbooksource

safari

that is a few of the usual pests that keep coming up.  They are satisfied by my current password, my last password or the password before.

You may have a corrupted keychain.

Unfortunately, Apple removed the First Aid option for the Keychain Access app.

Another option is to create a new login keychain.

Ref: Change or reset the password of a macOS user account - Apple Support (see the section under  "Create a new login keychain")

I tried to to create a new login keychain and didn't seem to help.

Now I have:

identityservicesd

networkserviceproxy

callHistoryPluginHelper

spotlight

they all want to use login keychain with my varying passwords

Try creating a new user account. Log off of your existing account, and then, log back in with the new account. Do the keychain errors re-appear after doing so?

Is you login password the same as the keychain password?

There were any of 3 passwords necessary for these random drop downs. I took Tesserax's advice and created a new user. I am now trying to customize it but drop downs are quiet right now.

Creating a new user was easy, but complicated. All my saved areas and extensions are gone. I will hold that out there as an extreme way to end the problem but I am not willing to do it right now. So I am back to my original account.

Your keychain should only have one password. By default, it is the same as your login password, but can be different. If it is different, you will have to enter the password quite often in some cases.
