How do I remove iCloud from my iMac?

I recently installed iCloub on my iMac and iPhone. It is somewhat confusing and is of any real use to me.

I would like to remove iCloud entirely.

On your Mac, open System Preferences > iCloud and log out, and Settings > iCloud > Delete account on your phone

Just sign out in System Preferences on your Mac, and Settings on your iPhone. There is nothing to remove.

Make sure you backup any data you have stored in iCloud that you want to keep.

When I click on the Sign Out button on my Mac the Signing Out spinner just keeps spinning and never logs out. I have nothing saved in the iCloud account. I simply want to sign out of it and then sign in to a different account.

Any idea what's preventing me from signing out? I'm running latest Mountain Lion on the latest iMac.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

My problem solved itself by waiting a very long time fo the spinning to stop. Sometimes the magic takes a while.

But then Apple still keeps pestering you with alerts to sign in. How do I stopp that?
