Deleting music on iPhone?

I am trying to curate my music library, so I'm deleting unwanted songs directly on my phone. When I plugged it into my laptop into iTunes, it thought I wanted to copy the missing songs back to my phone restoring over a thousand (1,000+) unwanted songs. I turned off automatic syncing, and checked on 'manually manage music'. The problem is that I want my library on my computer to reflect the changes on my phone. I want to be able to turn off manually manage music after I'm done curating, so I can just drag and drop music files and sync like I was doing before. Obviously I can't do that if the unwanted songs are still in the library in iTunes. Any suggestions? Or do I just have to delete on my computer which would be a lot more inconvenient in my case.
