Arrangement Tab in Displays is missing Sierra

Sierra 10.12.6 - up to date

I am trying to connect my ipad mini to use as a second extended display (I have also tried with my 6S plus, same problem).

I have connected with charging cable and it auto started Itunes, so I know it is recognised.

I have gone to to Displays, and looked for the Arrangement tab, but it isn't there. Nor can I 'Detect displays'.

I type Arrangement tab in the Search box at the top and it takes me to this page, but there is no tab there.

I am doing something wrong, but can't figure out what.

Thanks.

Who has told you that you can connect an iPad as an extended display this way? Because you cannot – at least not without special software.

Use multiple displays with your Mac - Apple Support

This is what I was following, but that would make sense, it mustn't apply to ipads without software.

Do you know software that will do this? Thank you.

An iPad is something else than an external display.

My experience with software that can turn your iPad in a display is limited. One solution is Duet Display: https://www.zdnet.com/article/duet-display-turn-ipad-into-a-second-monitor-for-ma c-with-zero-lag-review/
