icloud calendar sync after ios 11

I have been using iCloud sync of my calendars between my iPhone and desktop (Mac Pro, OSX 10.12.6). When I upgraded my iPhone to IOS 11, I lost that syncing. The iCloud app is gone. I understand that it has been replaced by Files but cannot see how that controls syncing of calendars, contacts, reminders, etc like iCloud did. What's worse is that all my local calndars and the entries have now disappeared from my calendar.
