Apple Trackpad generating ghost clicks

Well, since upgrading to Yosemite my 18 month old trackpad seems to have acquired a ghost. I have a standard Apple (bluetooth) Trackpad, and every few minutes it just goes crazy for a second or so, generating a random mouse move or two and then clicking things randomly. This happens even when my hand is nowhere close to the trackpad.

I've checked the trackpad batteries, which are fine, and tried re-pairing it with bluetooth, but the problem remains. This started only after I'd upgraded to Yosemite (from Mavericks) on my MacBook Pro. The on-board trackpad in the laptop doesn't seem to be affected, and my Bluetooth keyboard is working flawlessly, so it does seem to be related to the external trackpad.

Anyone else seeing this? Any ideas, or is this YAYB (yet another Yosemite bug)?

Some more information...

I've found that if i place my finger on the trackpad and roll it left or right (without leaving the surface), Yosemite is responding with some kind of left/right arrow action. However, this comes and goes more or less randomly.

It's NOT the trackpad .. I have another MBP still running Mavericks, and I re-paired the trackpad to that computer and everything was fine for over an hour of constant use. Switched back to Yosemite and POW .. the ghost returned within about two minutes (in fact it triggered just now as i was typing and jumped by cursor to another random location in this text box).

*** APPLE ???

THIS AN APPLE **** UP !!!!!!!!
WHY THE **** AM I GETTING GHOST CLICKING APPLE ????????????????
