Sierra upgrade bugs

Noticed some odd behavior since upgrading my Macbook Pro to Sierra (10.12.6).  Some mail boxes in Apple Mail have mysteriously disappeared. All my signatures in Apple Mail vanished and had to be set up again.  Occassionally items on the desktop cannot be moved (drag and drop) and are frozen in place. Has anyone experienced these issues?

Hi, imageguy!

Thank you for being a part of the Apple Support Communities. If I'm understanding your post, you have updated to macOS Sierra 10.12.6, and have noticed some strange behavior. Specifically, you're having trouble with disappearing mailboxes and signatures in the Mail app, and some trouble dragging and dropping items on the Desktop. I'd be happy to help!

Based on what you've described, I would suggest restoring a Time Machine backup, if you have one available. You can find instructions on how to do that here: Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac.

If you need additional help, do not hesitate to respond back.

Cheers!

Where will I find the missing mailboxes on the backup.  What  folder are they located in?

Thanks for getting back, imageguy.

To address all of the issues you've come across, we recommend reinstalling a complete Time Machine backup, instead of locating specific content from the backup to restore. You can do that through macOS Recovery, as described under the "Restore everything" section of Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac:

Restore everything:

  • To restore everything in your Time Machine backup, use macOS Recovery.

Have a great day.

The main issue is being unable to drag and drop. I am on a brand-new Mac, there is no backup, and I don't need old files. 2017 Macbook Pro with Sierra 10.12.6, it will not allow me to drag on any image and move it anywhere.

When upgrading to Sierra, the all the emails already on your mac are converted to V4.

When you have a lot of emails, this can take some time.

I propose to Quit Mail (from the menu),

restart the mac, then start Mail again. Wait a bit (say a minute before starting to use Mail).

Occassionally items on the desktop cannot be moved (drag and drop) and are frozen in place. ...

That's just not right. Please determine if the same problems occur in "Safe Mode": Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support.

You can also try creating a new, temporary User Account and determine if the same problems exist while logged in to that Account. To learn how to do that read How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac. When you are finished troubleshooting, you can remove the temporary User Account by following these instructions: macOS Sierra: Delete a user or group. Before removing it, confirm you don't need any of the files you might have created in that Account.

Has anyone experienced these issues?

Since your Mac is brand new, rather than asking if others are having trouble with theirs, you should be asking Apple about yours: Contact Support.
